Here is our current list of web resources that we find very useful or interesting. We'll try to keep this updated with our latest favorites so that it doesn't become long and unwieldy.

Assocation for Computing Machinery (ACM) Digital Library

A terrific resource for papers and publications related to computing technologies. We particularly enjoy it since CHI falls under the ACM umbrella.

Google Scholar

Google searches within the subset of academic pursuits.

Scirus

A search engine fo searching through scientific and research web resources.

Intellectual Property

US Patent and Trademark Office

Resource for looking up published U.S. patents.

World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Digital Library

Resource for searching published patents around the world.

Software and Programming

Ruby-Doc

Ruby and Rails have been getting a lot of press recently. It's a very nice option for many web-based efforts that need to be built quickly. This is a particularly good resource for Ruby-related materials.

Yahoo! User Interface Library

Yahoo! Design Pattern Library

Yahoo! has made available a repository of web UI widgets and UI patterns guidelines. Some of these are very nice and all of them are good for learning about UI techniques for the web.

Stanford Center for Professional Development Online Seminars

Some of these online seminars are very good and they're free! Take a look and you can view talks from prominent experts in Silicon Valley and beyond.

Tom's Hardware

This site provides thorough and in depth reviews of various consumer electronic products. There's a lot of great information here and the content is high in quality. If you like keeping up with new gadgets from a technical perspective, this is a great resource.

Wikipedia

There's so much information here it's hard to describe. Explore with the understanding that the information is maintained by the general public. But in most cases, it's quite good for gaining a cursory understanding of a topic and getting additional links for that topic.

Engadget

Entertaining and informative. This is nice reading when you have to eat lunch in front of a computer.

TechCrunch

For the lowdown on what's happening in the tech world through the lens of Silicon Valley.
