Patents
Lonny has been named inventor on three patent applications.
Sound Data Output and Manipulation Using Haptic Feedback
Issued: US Patent 6,703,550
This work was part of Lonny's doctoral research at Stanford University with cooperation from Immersion Corp. The work focused on incorporating haptic-feedback, or force-feedback, into digital audio editing systems. Essentially, the goal was to allow users to physically feel tactile properties of sound as they manipulated it. By providing an additional mode of feedback to traditional sources of visual and aural feedback, the user experience is greatly improved both qualitatively and quantitatively.
Device for Multimedia Storytelling
Issued: US Patent 6,976,229
"Device for Multimedia Storytelling" came out of work at Ricoh Silicon Valley. This work consisted of creating a prototype device to encourage users to share their digital photographs. The novel user interface that we developed helped users share pictures while providing the context of the stories associated with the photos. Additionally, the device was designed for sharing locally. In other words our goal was to design a device that would allow users to share their photos with somebody sitting next to them. This patent is still pending.
Method and System For Multi-Dimensional Symbol Coding System.
This patent was the basis for a startup Lonny founded in 2004 called Gridtag. The focus of the company was to develop a next-generation bar code to facilitate access of digital information through mobile phones. Gridtag's proprietary bar code was highly customizable and provided a greatly improved user experience in recognizing the information behind the code as well as an unique opportunity to enhance the visual aesthetic of bar code presentation
